Maderas
The luscious beaches of Maderas are reputable amongst surfers. This small town is also a great, more chilled, alternative to the commercial San Juan Del Sur.

Stay...
Selina
Ideally located, the Selina has a restaurant and a pool on site. They offer yoga classes and massages. At $5 a head massage you can’t say no. The food here wasn’t exceptional but the Machete restaurant is only down the road and serves delicious meals during the day and host a pizza night on Fridays.
We stayed in their tippies outside which felt more like camping than a hotel stay. Ideal if you’re on a budget and want to enjoy all the facilities of a hotel. compromising on the luxury of the accomodation. -
Do...
Surf, surf & surf…
There isn’t much else to do here but surf or hang out on the beach and watch people surfing! You can rent boards on the main playa and book lesson there as well. Otherwise any accommodation will happily recommend a school or instructor. -
Eat and drink...
Machete
This cafe serves the most delicious food, it’s got plenty of veggie and vegan options as well. On site, you’ll also find a little supermarket and a rack selling vintage clothes, I got myself a floral shirt as a souvenir. They are only open during the day apart from Friday eve where they host a banging pizza nights with live bands. Their pizzas are cooked in a wood fire oven and their dough is divine. possibly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten!
