Stay...
If you’re on a budget and keen to meet people stay at the Iguana hostel. The location is perfect, the rooftop bar is real convenient and free breakfast is a treat. They also have plenty of private rooms on offer!

Do...
This natural infinity pool overlooking the mountains is a must see in Oaxaca.
Lots of tour operators offer day tours to Hierve, this include:
Visit of the supposably biggest tree in the world Hierve el Agua (1hr)
A mezcaleria
A weaving shop
This doesn’t include lunch and that’s where they get you because you’ll be dropped off at a ALL YOU CAN EAT expensive buffet.
Alternatively you can take public transport but it’s not a straight line you’ll have to take a few buses and possibly wait a whilst in between.
I would, personally recommend, either hiring a taxi or else renting a car and getting around freely. This also means you can stay longer in Hierve el agua and go on a hike around it too.
The botanical gardens
It’s a great spot to check out some monumental cactuses. The real inconvenience here is that it’s mandatory to visit the gardens with a guide. When we went, there was over 40 people and the guide wasn’t very engaging. You might get luckier on your trip.
